Profile: Dr Bernard Tembo is a co-founder of Tec Analytics Consultant Limited. He is a Senior Member of the Economic Association of Zambia, and has an interdisciplinary background in energy, economics and engineering. Bernard is an experienced modeller and policy analyst, and currently serves as Member of the Technical Committee of the Board of the Energy Regulation Board (ERB). He has over 16 years of research, knowledge development as well as knowledge sharing experience in the Africa and European contexts. His work has ranged from research, policy advisory and business in the energy, economics, climate change, sustainable development and engineering fields. He has worked and consulted with various institutions in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Ghana, United States of America and Zambia. Bernard is a published researcher. He also has great networking and fundraising skills, an avid data geek and an advocate of open-source software. He has a strong passion for mentoring and capacity building, and contributing to the creation of strong institutional systems. He holds a PhD in Energy Economics from University College London (UCL), an MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Zambia (UNZA).

Pitch (selling points): I am a well rounded leader, team player and a self-driven person, with skills necessary to manage and engage high-level strategic relationships and navigate through complex bureaucratic environments. Having served in various senior capacities, I therefore bring a wealth of experience to the EAZ’s Board. Particularly, my efforts will be directed at making EAZ a stronger institution. I will focus on promoting on developing and spearheading initiatives aimed at nurturing young talents among us. Secondly, I will work to enhance dialogue, knowledge exchange and the provision of well grounded evidence to support decision making within EAZ, and among its stakeholders such as the public and the private sectors. Finally, in this position, I commit to fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard, valued, and respected, and with all the EAZ business being conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
